Swindon Labour Group’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Mark Dempsey, is holding a public briefing about allowing pop-up shops in Swindon on Thursday 11 April, 4pm, in Committee Room 1 at Swindon Civic Offices, Euclid Street.
Councillor Dempsey will be joined by a representative of StartUp Britain, which is a national enterprise campaigning organisation which has developed and advocated the use of pop-up shops across the country.
The public briefing comes prior to a motion being moved at a full meeting of Swindon Council Meeting later that evening where Councillor Dempsey will be proposing the implementation of pop-up shops.
He said: “Pop-Up shops are one way to breathe new life into the town centre and to support small businesses. It has been trialled in other areas of the country and has been proven to work. That is why I am moving a motion at a Swindon Council Meeting calling on thecouncil to look in to this.
"I’m delighted StartUp Britain have decided to send a representative to Swindon to provide a public briefing on the benefits of using pop-up shops and I’m hoping this will help inform the debate councillors will have on this issue at the Council Meeting.
"I would encourage all those people interested in finding out more about this initiative to attend this meeting.”
