Local residents have joined forces with the Friends of Rodbourne Cheney Primary School to take over and develop the grassed area at the back of Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library to create a “Community garden”.
We aim to provide a tranquil outdoor space for Library users; to spend time with a book, with friends and with children. It will also be an opportunity for some of the regular Library activities, such as the Friday Songs and Stories Group and Community Coffee Morning group to relax and enjoy a natural environment.
The Steering Group received a small grant from SBC which allowed them to get started but have recently secured additional help from “Groundwork’s UK” a local environmental regeneration charity. Groundwork’s are supporting with professional advice and money to help pay for equipment, landscaping and planting.
The garden will still need volunteers to help get the initial work done and for regular donations of plants and general. If you are keen on gardening, (no skills needed just a willingness to take part), and have a little spare time please get in touch.
Draft plans for the garden are on display now in the Library and on Saturday 28 April from 10am – 1pm we’re having an Open Day, when the garden will be open to view and we will have an opportunity to break ground, weather permitting. Cakes and drinks will be provided.
Please come to have a look, no obligation to join!
