At their annual exhibition last September the Mayor of Swindon, Rex Barnett challenged Swindon Photographic Society to come up with a competition that encouraged photographers to focus exclusively on the town.
Seven months later he was faced with the problem of finding three winners from 66 entries. “The standard was incredible; it was really difficult to come up with a short list and to pick winners,” said Rex. “I’d like to thank the society and its member for capturing our town and putting on an excellent exhibition. I hope this will become an annual event with encourages more people to concentrate on Swindon"
Exhibition secretary Gareth Evans, who coordinated the project, said, “our members have not paid a lot of attention to Swindon until Rex confronted us, but the competition made them see the town differently.”
All the entries are available to view until 3 April at West Swindon Library.
