Award winning stand-up and star of Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week, comedienne Andi Osho is touring the UK this spring with her critically acclaimed show, Afroblighty.
Fresh from a sell-out run at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, comic, presenter, actress and writer Andi Osho is one of today’s hottest up-and-coming new comedians. Her straight talking manner combined with her unique, distinctive individual style and appearance make her stand out from the comedy pack as a name to look out for over the coming months.
Afroblighty is the funny and touching tale of an East End girl born to Nigerian migrants and her journey to find an identity in the cultural cross fire of modern Britain. From Black & White Minstrels’ shows and Lenny Henry, through the emerging urban culture, the rise and fall and rise again of the BNP and out the other side into political correctness, America’s first black president and beyond, Afroblighty is Andi’s personal take on what it meant to grow up in the middle of a wonderful, confusing, frustrating and inspiring culture clash.
Andi was seen on our television screens in 2010 on the Friday night weekly topical late night Channel 4 series Stand Up For The Week. Alongside fellow comedians Patrick Kielty, Rich Hall, Jack Whitehall and Kevin Bridges, Andi and her co-presenters took a comical look at the news stories of the week in front of a live audience at London’s Koko nightclub. The series ran for six weeks in June/July 2010 with a second series (10 eps) planned for March 2011.
In 2010 Andi also appeared on the second series of Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC ONE), Celebrity Mastermind (triumphant winner – chosen subject the Matrix Films – BBC ONE), Comedy Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live (BBC3), Nevermind The Buzzcocks (BBC TWO), Mock The Week (BBC ONE), Comedy Store (Comedy Central) and 50 Funniest Moments (Channel 4).
Other television credits include: co-host, alongside Jason Manford, on Tonightly (Channel 4), Psychoville (BBC2), Big Top (BBC1) Russell Brand and Friends (Channel 4), and her very own E4 pilot The Andi O Show. Andi is set to appear in the new British feature film, Swinging with the Finkels featuring Martin Freeman and she has also written and performed on Stand Up In The Steer (BBC Radio 4), Live At The Hackney Empire (BBC Radio 2), The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), series 1 and 2 of Newsjack (BBC Radio 7) and Hot Gossip (BBC Radio 2).
As an accomplished stand-up Andi has made the final of five major UK Stand Up Comedy Awards and won the prestigious Nivea Funny Women award in 2007. Her other accolades include: Nominee at the Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year, nominee at the Hackney Empire New Act Of The Year Competition plus Best Newcomer Nominee at the Black Entertainment Comedy Awards.
