A 27-year-old man from the Rodbourne area of Swindon appeared before Salisbury Magistrates Court on 4 April and released on bail.
Abuzer Erdem, (DOB 1 January 1986) from St Austell Way, was arrested on 2 April on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in Wood Street, Old Town in the early hours of 1 April. In court he was charged with wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
He was released on bail and is due to appear at Swindon Crown Court on 19 April.
Sam Rees, is the 27-year-old victim in the case and remains in a critical condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford having undergone a significant brain operation following an attack at around 4.40am on Monday.
In a statement on 2 April Wiltshire Police Superintendent Gavin Williams said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their assistance in this investigation so far and for allowing Wiltshire Police officers the space and time to conduct a thorough search of the Wood Street area yesterday.
“We have a dedicated team of officers working on this case to ensure that it is progressed as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Wiltshire Police would still like to hear from any witnesses to the incident.
Mr Rees was wearing a cream shirt, dark blue jeans and black leather shoes. He was taken first to the Great Western Hospital before being transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
