Shiver me timbers, these won’t be your normal nasty pirates types. Les Slinn and 11 other runners masquerading as if they’ve taken a wrong turning at the Caribbean will be dipping into their treasure chest for sweets to throw to the crowds along the Swindon half marathon course on 9 October.
And all they want you to do in return is go their web site to sponsor their effort to raise £6,000 to buy a vibrogym machine for the Swindon MS Therapy Centre, a piece of equipment that vibrates to stimulate the circulation, activate nerve endings and strengthen muscles. Fifteen Allstars have signed up to run the Rome Marathon in March 2012 to raise money for this much needed piece of equipment.
The team will also be making a donation to the Swindon Down’s Syndrome Support Group.
Over the last three years the Les Slinn Allstars running club has raised £6,000 for the two charities, including pulling MS sufferer Samantha Mulvey in a wheelchair dressed as Romans. In 2010 Les ran the Marathon des Sables ultra-marathon for the charities.
