The award-winning boss of one of Reading’s major shopping centres has taken over the helm at Swindon’s Brunel Shopping Centre.
Steve Fawke, 57, recently took up his post as General Manager of Swindon’s major shopping centre in the heart of Swindon Town Centre having been appointed by the centre’s property managers, FI-REM.
Steve Fawke (pictured) said: "I wasn’t looking to move but this opportunity came up to join FI-REM. It was a tough decision to leave Reading, I’m extremely proud of what I achieved in my eight years as Manager of Broad Street Mall. Once I heard about the plans for The Brunel Centre I knew it was a challenge that I couldn’t resist”.
Under the management of Steve Fawke, Broad Street Mall Reading underwent major modernisation and saw an influx of new shops and a programme of promotions put the centre back on the town’s shopping map.
Earlier this year Steve Fawke was awarded runner-up in Shopping Centre Magazine’s coveted award for the best UK Shopping Centre Manager.
Bernard Ferris, Head of Shopping Centre Management UK and Europe at FI-REM said: “We’re delighted that Steve has decided to join us at The Brunel Swindon. We have been aware of Steve for some time and watched what a great job he has been doing at Reading. The Brunel Centre has great potential and Steve’s energy, ideas and experience are exactly what the centre needs”.
Earlier this year FI-REM announced a substantial increase in the centre’s marketing budget plus the appointment of a dedicated Marketing Manager, Jane Stewart.
The increased budget has enabled The Brunel to hold events to attract shoppers to the centre such as the Food and Home Show with celebrity chef James Martin in April.
This September Brunel staff attended an Industry event in London with Forward Swindon to promote the centre to the UK’s top retailers.
