Swindon Road Club held a cyclo-cross day at Lydiard Park on 23 September which turned out to be a great fundraiser for Hop, Skip & Jump respite centre at Upper Shaw Farm.
The event sponsored by Hargroves Cycles attracted 225 competitors, including 57 under 12s, who rode a mile course over the fields and through the woodlands of the park.
Because of the wet and cold weather competitors and spectators spent much of the day huddled together in the refreshments tent keeping warm with tea, coffee and home made cakes – the proceeds of which were donated to the charity.
“The conditions were pretty rough, the worst we’ve had for years, but people spent more money on refreshments and we raised £320 for Hop Skip & Jump,” said club member Claire Smith.
