Another series of the Great British Bake Off is back on the BBC and the Wiltshire branch of Breakthrough Breast Cancer is asking you to take inspiration and show off their talents in memory of the late Shirley Garman, their founder.
The charity wants friends, family and colleagues to aim for the Great Pink Bake Off on 18 October, a national cake consumption day to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s life-saving work to reduce the number of women affected by cancer each year.
Eunice Salmon, the Wiltshire branch baking coordinator, added: “Shirley set up the branch in 1995 with the target of raising £1 million for Breakthrough. She sadly died in 2009, but her legacy lives on.
“Why not organise a cake sale at work, in school, in the community or have friends round to indulge? Register your Great Pink Bake Off participation with us and it will count towards Shirley’s total.”

Breakthrough is the UK’s leading breast cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through improving early diagnosis, developing new treatments and preventing all types of the disease.
Sian Fraser, Head Baker for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Great Pink Bake Off, said: “We hope everyone gets involved with this year’s Great Pink Bake Off. Not only will you have a delicious time, you’ll also be raising vital money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
“The need for Breakthrough’s research has never been greater; breast cancer is still the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, affecting 50,000 women every year and killing 1,000 every month. So we are urging everyone to raise some dough and help us beat breast cancer.”
Jane Asher, baking expert and ambassador for Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Great Pink Bake Off, , right, added: “Everybody knows someone affected by breast cancer – so I’m urging everyone to join the Great Pink Bake Off on Friday 18th October and get baking to help support this fantastic organisation.
“Simply ask your friends and family to bring their homemade treats, make a donation and decide whose bake is best. As well as having lots of fun, it’ll be satisfying to know that all the money you raise will go towards Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s vital work. Do join me: sign up today and help us save lives.See more fundraising information at www.pinkbakeoff.org or call 08080 100 200.
