Tenants and visitors to Basepoint Swindon on 14 August got on a bike to mix their own smoothies using pedal power.
The joint initiative with Swindon Travel Choices supported the Swindon Cycle to Work scheme and to raise the awareness of the benefits of active travel.
The event was well attended by local residents, as well as tenants and employees of the business centre.
There was a queue of people waiting to try out the ‘Smoothie Bike’ which creates a healthy and nutritious beverage through sheer pedal power, as well as an open surgery with ‘Dr Bike,’ who provided free security coding for all bicycles and a free maintenance service.
In addition, there was also a presentation on Swindon’s car club – an initiative whereby members can hire a car by the hour without the hassle and expense of buying one.

There are currently four cars in Swindon available for club members, with one more becoming available in the autumn. These cars can also be used by local businesses as pool cars to either supplement their existing fleet or to reduce the costs associated with mileage claims.
Lyn Chapman, Centre Manager at Basepoint Swindon, commented: “We had a brilliant turnout at the event, with all visitors receiving free servicing on their bikes, as well as informative discussions and presentations on the benefits of driving your car less frequently. We would also like to say thank you to SwindonLink.com for raising awareness of initiative beforehand.”
