Local training provider Solomon Training UK Ltd has designed a beginner’s IT course especially for jobseekers over 19 struggling with the new DWP Universal Jobmatch initiative.
The company, a Microsoft IT Academy based in Rodbourne, Swindon, designed the course especially for beginners after talking to jobseekers who were unable to register on the Jobmatch website or look for work on-line due to a lack of basic computer skills.
The Jobmatch course that starts in the New Year runs for 5 weeks (one day per week), and will help eligible jobseekers new to computers to register on the Universal Jobmatch website, and if they don’t have an email account they will learn how to create one. They will also learn how to search for jobs on-line and how to attach their CV to an email. If they need a CV, help and advice on how to create one is available.
Director Tania Jones said,
“We realised fairly quickly that for many jobseekers, searching on-line was a problem. So we decided to design a five day course that will gently ease beginners into the world of computers, and in our experience, once people learn how to use a computer properly, they overcome their apprehension and go on to complete a higher level qualification. As proof of how valuable an IT qualification can be, over 40% of our learners find work quite quickly after completing an IT course with us.”
If the learner decides to continue improving their IT skills, other nationally recognised IT courses are available from Entry Level 3 to Advanced Level 3. These are also free to eligible jobseekers.
Solomon Training also hold their unique People Power morning on the second Wednesday of every month from 10 o’clock until twelve noon at the Shaftesbury Centre. People Power is a free social event for their learners and any eligible local jobseeker to attend.
People Power has proved popular due to the programme of interesting topics including inspirational speakers, an award ceremony for the learners, a free quiz, free refreshments and helpful advice and information from local support organisations including the National Careers Centre, Swindon Voluntary Centre, and local recruitment agencies.
