The long awaited decision as to whether Torun Way should be closed to general traffic has been made by Swindon Council and the police have been out telling drivers that the short cut from Haydon End to Westfield Way is no longer available to them.
The traffic restriction on Torun Way is a condition of the original planning permission for Priory Vale demanded by councillors and residents to prevent traffic flowing south from the new development.
Drivers now have to use Thamesdown Drive to reach Haydon Wick and Woodall Park, or face a £30 fine if caught using the bus gate.
Looking at the section of the North Swindon map published by Swindon Link, drivers should avoid trying to make their way from Casterbridge Road to Taw Hill and Thamesdown Drive. Apart from street names, there are no direction signs and it is very confusing to find the route out. People who don’t know the area have been lost for days.
