Big Hat is an inclusive network promoting arts participation in Swindon for disabled and non-disabled people.
Formed in 2006 by REACH Inclusive Arts, Swindon Dance and Upham Road Centre, the BIG HAT Performing Arts network has grown to include Commonweal and Crowdys Hill and Uplands Schools. This year more disability organisations and performers have joined the cooperative and the Big Hat Cabaret is now Swindon’s foremost arts and disability event.
Getting ‘Big’ means bigger venue and Big Hat Cabaret are pleased to announce our move to ‘Steam’ The Great Western Railway Museum on Fire Fly Avenue.
The Big Hat Cabaret this year takes place on Friday 21 June celebrating the quality and diversity of inclusive arts by young people and adults.
Featuring Salto! Dance Company, Partners Theatre Company, Commonweal School House Band and Crowdys Hill Choir with films by Create
Inclusive and Commonweal School, mayhem provided by a short pirate Panto and a wonderfully surreal drama from the now well established ‘Rubber Chicken Show’ the night will be compered by guest comic and presenter Kev Sutherland.
During the afternoon, visitors are welcome to Steam to take part in an arts workshop and finished pieces will be displayed to the cabaret audience on arrival. A bar will be available throughout the show, provided by Riffs Bar, selling a range of drinks. The whole evening will end with dancing to a live band.
