The Rt Revd Dr Lee Rayfield, the Bishop of Swindon, pictured below has agreed to become a Patron of the Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon.
Following a meeting with Roy Endacott, the Community Foundation's CEO, and Alan Fletcher, a Trustee, Bishop Lee said, "I was impressed by what I heard about the Community Foundation. It seems to me that the Foundation is a significant instrument for developing and maintaining initiatives at a grass roots level"
Roy Endacott believes that the Bishop's association with the Community Foundation will help to raise the organisation's profile in Swindon. "We are delighted that the Bishop has agreed to become a Patron, joining other eminent figures including the Bishop of Salisbury, the Lord Lieutenant and Baroness Warnock, and we look forward to working more closely with him to build positive and fruitful relationships in the county".
The Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon is a registered charity that is dedicated to strengthening local communities by encouraging local giving. It targets its grants to make a genuine difference to the lives of local people, and manages donors' funds, building endowment and acting as the vital link between donors and local needs. It also aims to connect people with causes, and enable donors to achieve far more, using its experience and networks.
In the last financial year, over one third of all the Community Foundation's grants were made to projects working with disadvantaged people in Swindon – at total of over ??200,000. Thanks to the support of many Swindon-based companies, private individuals and Trusts in the county, as well as government funding that is distributed by the Community Foundation, the charity is able to give support to a wide range of people, including children and families, isolated older people, disabled people, people recovering from mental health problems and people living in some of the more disadvantaged areas of Swindon, both urban and rural.
