Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after the body of a woman was discovered on a road in Royal Wootton Bassett last night.
At approximately 11pm on Sunday 2nd June 2013 the body of a woman was found lying in the Royal Wootton Bassett bound lane of the A3102 at the Stoneover Lane junction at Royal Wootton Bassett.
The woman had received extensive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman is described as white, approximately 25 to 45 years of age with short ginger hair. She was wearing blue jeans, a khaki coloured jacket and light coloured training shoes.
She has yet to be formally identified.
Police sergeant Craig Hardy said: “Police are keen to trace any vehicle(s) that were driven from the direction of Junction 16 of the M4 towards Royal Wootton Bassett that may have struck the victim on the road.
“Witnesses have described seeing large goods vehicle parked in a lay-by close to the site of this incident and we are urging the driver of this vehicle to contact Wiltshire Police as they may hold valuable information to assist with our enquiries.”
The road was closed for 8 hours while officers from the Wiltshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Team investigated the scene.
The Collision Team would like to hear from anyone who was using the A3102 in the Stoneover Lane area between 10pm and11pm on Sunday 2nd June whether they believe they have information or not.
