He is on a restricted protein diet, has complex health care needs, global developmental delay, growth hormone deficiency and is allergic to dairy products. Great Ormond Street provide treatment for Brandon and Naomi House Children’s Hospice gives respite care and looks after him for 16 days a year.
Nicki, who also has daughter Krystal, 13, and son Bradley, 15, said: "I didn’t start fundraising in search of recognition. Brandon was very ill and continues to need constant monitoring. We’ve been given a lot of support since he was born, fundraising is my way of saying thank you.
"It was nice to be asked to be involved in the torch relay and Tuesday night was incredible. There were hundreds, maybe thousands of people lining our section of the road, cheering, clapping, many holding lanterns.
"I was the first in my relay group and had to touch or ‘kiss’ my torch and pass the flame to other team members. The pride in our group was matched by the energy coming from the crowd – it really felt we were at one. Everybody was so happy and proud to be part of the event. It was utterly surreal, and then the flame went onto the next group on the road to London.
"I’m so pleased to have been part of the torch relay and very thankful to Hanif for paying for the torch, as well as The Link magazine for arranging it. Having actually been part of the torch relay I would have been very sad not to have been able to keep it. Hanif’s sponsorship support is really important and I would love to see lots of people at the Bombay Lounge on 10 September."
The charity curry night will raise money for Naomi House Hospice. The cost of the all-you-can-eat buffet is £12.50 and diners can have their picture taken holding the torch in return for a donation.
Book a table by calling the Bombay Lounge on 01793 887799.
Nicki’s next fundraising adventure in support of Naomi House will be a trek through the jungles of Thailand ending with a river rafting expedition in early December. Sponsor her at www.justgiving.com/nicki-styles
