Twelve workers from npower’s offices in Swindon are pulling on their walking boots to raise vital funds for the company’s charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support. Last year they trekked up and down Scafell Pike and this year they have set their sights on the Macmillan Trekathon. This challenging walking marathon sees them journey across the spectacular countryside between Stonehenge and Avebury. The group is hoping to raise a total of £2,000 and npower has agreed to match the fundraising total £4£, which will double the effort to help people living with cancer.
Alison Cole, Anita Longley, Clare McDougall, Dan Meredith, Hannah Warhurst, Jodie Moffatt, Amy Rynn, Chloe Peppiatt, Neil Burgess, Merrill Douglas, Rosie Mowatt and Mel Jack have been practising for the 26 mile journey over the past few weeks and are determined to complete it come rain or shine. Rosie, who lives in Brinkworth, says: “Our unusual training techniques over the past few weeks have included baking cakes to raise funds. We’re hoping that the rain stays away long enough to complete the walk within our target time of ten hours. We’d rather finish in good shape than set an Olympic record.”
