Highest ever trading recorded for Boxing Day as Swindon shoppers are out in force post-Christmas. Double digit growth across designer collections, underwear and footwear. Brands including Superdry and Timberland recorded highest ever Boxing Day sales at the centre.
McArthurGlen’s Swindon Designer Outlet – part of Europe’s leader in designer outlets with 21% of the market share – today reports record trading for Boxing Day, with the highest single day of trading ever recorded, as hundreds of shoppers were out in force post-Christmas snapping up the fantastic sales offers.
Local shoppers also took advantage of the centre’s attractive proposition of designer and high street brands at up to 60% less in the lead up to Christmas, driven by strong sales across gifting and fashion categories. Double digit growth during the peak Christmas period [17-30 December] was recorded across designer collections, with like-for-like growth 33% year-on-year.
For the same period, like-for like sales for underwear and footwear sales were also up 24% year-on-year and 23% year-on-year, respectively. Womenswear also saw strong double digit growth, as shoppers snapped up outfits for the festive season, from leading brands such as Hobbs, Ted Baker, Calvin Klein, French Connection and Jaeger.
Tina Cumpstey, Centre Manager at McArthurGlen’s Swindon Designer Outlet, says: “Christmas has exceeded our expectations, with record trading in the 15 year history of the centre. We had seven new stores open in 2012, which helped attract more festive shoppers than ever to the unrivalled shopping experience of designer and high street brands for less.”
Retail Analyst, Jeremy Baker adds: “Retailers who demonstrated value to consumers will be the success stories of the Christmas trading period. In the Age of Austerity if the retailer can prove quality, with brand names, and significant savings, as McArthurGlen Designer Outlets do, then consumers will buy and buy all year round.”
The centre is housed in the beautifully renovated Grade II listed buildings of the Great Western Railway Works, which sits on the edge of picturesque Wiltshire, and boasts excellent transport links. Swindon train station is just a stone’s throw away from the centre, offering a convenient link from London. It’s also easily accessible from the M4 and M5 and in close vicinity to both Bristol International Airport and London Heathrow, making McArthurGlen Swindon easily accessible for both domestic and international shoppers.
McArthurGlen’s Swindon Designer Outlet, which offers 90 designer and fashion brands at up to 60% less, including Kurt Geiger and Crew Clothing, is the must-visit shopping destination for men, women, and children who want to keep up with the latest fashion. New openings during 2012 included French Connection, Crabtree & Evelyn, Fossil and Watch Station.
