Tickets are now on sale for the hotly anticipated British Final Festival of One-Act Plays 2011, taking place at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon.
Now in its 78th year, the festival brings together four competing acting companies representing England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, in its annual search for the best British one-act play.
Supported by John Lewis, the festival – taking place 1-2 July 2011 – sees teams of amateur actors, crews and directors perform short one-act plays that have successfully won at regional and divisional finals in their home countries to win a place at the grand final in Swindon.
Mike Linham, Western Area Chairman of organisers the All-England Theatre Festival, said: “We’re very grateful to John Lewis for their generous support of the British Final Festival of One-Act Plays. Their involvement has made an immense difference and we’ve been able to really raise the standard; including choosing Swindon and its wonderful 600-seat Wyvern Theatre to host the event. We are all very excited about, what’s set to be, our best festival yet!”
Each team is given between 20 and 55 minutes to perform a short one-act play, including set up and strike of their stage set. Points will be awarded and penalties given by competition adjudicator Mike Tilbury GODA, who will judge contestants on acting, production, stage presentation and dramatic achievement.
Dominic Joyce, branch manager, John Lewis at home Swindon, commented: “John Lewis is delighted to support the British Final Festival of One-Act Plays. Not only will the festival attract a large number of visitors to Swindon which is great news for the area, it’s a fun event that the local community can enjoy by attending the weekend’s performances.
“John Lewis has long been active in its support of the arts in the UK and as part of our ongoing commitment; we’re thrilled that we can now bring this tradition to John Lewis at home Swindon through our patronage of the British Final Festival of One-Act Plays.”
