Barry and Mandy Cook of Cafelicious in Havelock Square have just won the Beverage Standards Association’s award for the Best Hot Chocolate in the UK.
Milky or vegan hot chocolate made with soya milk, the luscious drink made by Cafelicious using real Ecuadorian cocoa is undeniably the best I’ve consumed.
It delights the need for a real chocolate experience without the excessive sweetness that you usually get elsewhere. If you like it sweeter, add sugar.
As a vegan it’s not something you expect to find in Swindon. Indeed, unless an item or drink has got vegetable margarine in it, it’s often difficult to find anything at all, other than a salad, in the town centre.
The team at Cafelicious are so welcoming and helpful, it’s like popping around to see the family. Many of the regular drinkers recognise each other, due to the frequency of our visits – it’s our alcohol-free local.
Even a ‘simple’ cup of coffee can widen the taste experience – ever had an ‘Aeropress’ coffee? An intensely smooth, aromatic flavour in at least four different coffees of varied origin are available – the Yirgacheffe has become a favourite for my husband; it’s almost mocha-like, with its rounded effect on the tastebuds. The liquid is satiny, due to the super-fine filtering of the brew.
Cafelicious are happy to make adaptations to the menu to create a gorgeous-smelling seeded brown baguette loaded with roasted vegetables or rocket and Sunblush tomatoes to please the vegan psyche.
If taste, quality and wonderful customer care are all things you enjoy – you are missing out if you haven’t visited. Whether you like dairy or soya milk (on request) – try it.
