In celebration of the launch of Costa Light, a lighter tasting coffee, Costa is calling on up and coming comedians in Swindon to encourage us all to see the lighter side of life with the Costa Light Comedy Challenge.
Launched by stand up star Paul Tonkinson, Costa is encouraging budding stand up comics to submit a one-minute film of their act to www.costalightcomedy.co.uk which will be voted on by members of the public. After regional heats judged by Paul Tonkinson and a final in London at The Comedy Store in November the winner will get a prime 10 minute slot at The Comedy Store in both London and Manchester providing a fast-track ticket to the big stage!
The closing date for entries is 24 October 2011. The top 10 acts in each UK region will go head to head in live regional finals. The regional heat for the West Country will take place at the Costa Bristol store in Cabot Circus Shopping Centre on the evening of Monday 7 November 2011.
There are three stages of the competition:
1. Comedians upload a section of their stand-up routine to a dedicated microsite www.costalightcomedy.co.uk for public voting. Radio promotions and social media communications drive voting.
2. The top 10 entries in five regions get invited to a Costa Light ‘Laugh Off’ at designated Costa Light Comedy Challenge evenings across Britain. Each event will be compered by comedian Paul Tonkinson.
3. Two regional winners from each area attend the final event in front of an invited audience at The Comedy Store in London. The event will be judged by Paul Tonkinson, a representative from both the Comedy Store and Costa Coffee.
