This year, Swindon marks Real Nappy Week (26 April to 2 May) with a fashion show in Old Town Gardens on 2 May at 1pm at The Bandstand.
The event will showcase the latest trends in cloth nappies, and will include everything from off-the-shelf all-in-one nappies to funky ‘upcycled’ nappies created from used fabrics.
The show will also showcase unique nappies created by work at home mums (WAHMs) that can be purchased online. These nappies aren’t just stylish – they’re easy (many mums say just as easy as disposables) and much cheaper than the disposable option. Choosing cloth can save you upwards of £1,000 for each baby in nappies.
Immediately following the show, which is expected to be around half an hour long, there will be an extended picnic-blanket ‘nappuccino’ in the park. There will be nappy demonstrations so that you can touch the nappies and see how they work up close, along with a tutorial on how to sew your own nappies at home. Wiltshire Wildlife Trust will also be there to tell you all about the cash rebate available against your cloth nappy purchases.
Finally, there are some great prizes to be won from Swindon-based businesses in the free entry prize draw. Tobias Robins Photography (www.trphotography.co.uk) will be giving away a £110 voucher that will get you a studio shoot and a gift frame. Inner Smile Holistic Massage (www.innersmilemassage.co.uk) will be giving away a 30 minute massage and free admission to a one-off baby massage class. There are also a few cloth nappies to be won, including a small trial kit from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, a free nappy from Wiltshire Nappies (www.wiltshirenappies.co.uk) and a custom nappy from The Lucky Sprog in one of their funky prints.
