Dedicated volunteers have received special awards from the Mayor of Swindon.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to people who have supported the Robert Le Kyng Children’s Centre in Westcott Street.
The project, managed by children’s charity Barnardo’s South West on behalf of Swindon Borough Council and funded through the government’s Sure Start scheme, provides a wide range of services to local families with under-5s.
This includes parenting advice, a creche, breastfeeding support, keep-fit classes, links to local health services such as smoking cessation and children’s speech and language therapy, and help with seeking work and training.
The team of volunteers received their certificates from Mayor David Wren at the Westbourne Youth & Community Centre, Westcott Street.
Barnardo’s volunteer co-ordinator Lisa Carswell said: “We are delighted that the Mayor was able to present these awards to so many of our supporters.
“They provide an invaluable service both to the charity and to local families, helping them to transform their lives and fulfil their potential.
“They help with every aspect of our work, enabling Barnardo’s to reach out to far more people than would otherwise have been possible.
“We are sincerely grateful for their support, and would welcome expressions of interest from other people who think they have something to offer their local community.”
