Based on Strictly Come Dancing, the hit BBC TV show that has got the whole nation moving, an MP, business person and a journalist will be putting on the style at Strictly Swindon on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July.
Strictly Swindon will feature MP for South Swindon, Robert Buckland, Richard Loftus the Wyvern Theatre’s Marketing Manager, Ian Baker bpm active, fitness expert, Martin Frith, director of Frith Rugs, Phil Smith, Schools PE Sports Specialist and Swindon Advertiser journalist Scott D’Arcy – most have never danced before.
The six celebrities have been paired up with professional dancers from Swindon Dance and have been rehearsing at Swindon Dance every Thursday evening for three weeks in June and July on a fun 1920’s Charleston piece.
Choreographer Zoe Humphries has been putting them through their paces on Thursday evenings with Robert Buckland, pictured, receiving personal attention on Thursday afternoons. He said: "Learning to dance the Charleston is proving to be tough, tiring, but enjoyable. Zoe is an excellent teacher and rehearsals have been great fun. It was reassuring to see that the other volunteers were just as nervous as me. I hope that things will be all right on the night."
Wyvern Theatre’s marketing manager Richard Loftus says he’s becoming more nervous as the performance gets closer. “I am honoured to have been invited to take part in this year’s Strictly Swindon – with Sarah Josh as my dance partner. I’m confident that we will deliver a performance on a par with this year’s TV winners Louis Smith and Flavia Cacace. It’s both nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time.“
