Cher Sawyer Smith is making her 26 years experience of working in the voluntary sector available to organisations and charities in the Swindon area that need to update their skills and make themselves more relevant to the future.
As an employed charity director of Threshold Housing Link she develops high quality frontline services and has steered the charity to achieve the Charity Commissions ‘Hallmarks of a Well Run Charity’ and Investors in People (IiP) accreditation. Such work was rewarded with the Mayor’s Pride of Swindon award in 2009 and an MBE in the Queens New Years Honour List in December 2009.
Reflecting on the recognition, Cher said: “Receiving the two awards is such a great honour yet very humbling. My mum is so proud and she thoroughly enjoyed the award ceremony and celebrations.”
Since then Cher has put her experience and capability to good use. She now runs her own company, Charities Inc. and is available as a consultant to other charities and organisations to assist with providing or developing:
business & sustainability plans;
support & mentoring for managers ;
governance & trustee development;
facilitating group meetings;
copy writing & design of annual reports.
Cher believes that every problem has a solution and that everyone is worth listening to when trying to identify needs, aspirations and visions.
Creating a holistic overview of the issues involved with a project Cher will then go on to develop a strategy that promotes and identifies the key to success. She said: “Truth and honesty whilst engaging positively with the people in the organisation, inspires the development of their projects and helps them create sustainability for their vision.”
