A charity car wash is being held at Swindon fire station this Saturday to raise funds for a little boy with cancer.
Five-year-old Charlie Allen was recently diagnosed with leukaemia. He has already undergone investigative surgery and a number of scans at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and is now receiving chemotherapy treatment.
Swindon firefighter Jason Close decided to organise a fundraiser as his daughter is in the same class as Charlie at Beechcroft Infants School.
He said: “This is such an awful time for Charlie’s family, and just getting to and from Oxford for treatment is expensive. At this time, they don’t know how long the chemotherapy will have to go on for, so raising some money to try and relieve one of the pressures seemed the right way to go.”
Jason, other firefighters and a team of volunteers will be at Drove Road fire station from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, washing cars in return for donations. Half of the money raised will go to Charlie’s family, and the other half will benefit the Fire Fighters Charity.
