With the help of Swindon’ s own Let Us Auction It Ltd and Swindon Link Magazine, Age Concern Swindon auctioned a fantastic collection of knitted characters by Swindon support Mrs Barker.
A regular bidder from Berkshire, Miss Griffiths, won the items at ?67 and then doubled the amount with an extra donation. She said, “I have great admiration for people with the skill to make beautiful handmade objects. Skills like this are undervalued in today’s automated world where everything is produced as quickly and cheaply as possible to the detriment of quality and reliability. I am delighted to have won these items and to support Age Concern who do a marvellous job helping elderly people who are increasingly neglected by society today”.
Mel Richards, fundraising manager at Age Concern Swindon said “our grateful thanks go Miss Griffiths and to local knitter, Mrs Barker. Age Concern Swindon needs all the support we can get to maintain our services to older people in and around the borough and with the help of Let Us Auction It and Swindon Link this has been a real success”.
