Keith Chegwin will be the star in not one, but two Wyvern Theatre pantomimes, this December and at the ed of 2012.
But Keith knows the town well from his early days in entertainment and television. In his twenties, as a presenter of BBC 1 Saturday morning children’s show The Multi-Coloured Swap Shop with Noel Edmonds and Maggie Philbin, the team did an outside broadcast from Coate Water – as pictured below by Swindon photographer Richard Wintle at the end of the 1970s.
The Wyvern Theatre is thrilled to announce that Keith Chegwin will headline, for the second year running, Swindon’s favourite pantomime production. Like something out of Swap Shop, the New Year will see TV personality Keith Chegwin trade his ‘Buttons’ for ‘Silly Billy’, when he stars in Jack and the Beanstalk from Saturday 8 December 2012 to Sunday 6 January 2013.
"I’ve enjoyed rehearsals so much that I’ve signed up to spend next Christmas in Swindon too," says Keith Chegwin. "Audiences can now laugh until it hurts two years on the trot! Wey-hey!"
Keith Chegwin continues to find himself in the spotlight. Over the coming months, not only does he lead the cast in Cinderella at the Wyvern, Keith also stars in the movie Kill Keith and has appeared Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s TV series Life’s Too Short. In 2013 he’s booked to appear in Dancing On Ice and will be juggling rehearsals for his second Swindon pantomime with training to skate.
‘Keith is a fantastic fun personality who is known by the whole family – ideal for a pantomime star – and I am so excited that he is returning to the Wyvern once again,” said Theatre Director Derek Aldridge. “As an actor, host and presenter he has starred in films, television, on stage and on radio for over 40 years and I know our audiences will love him.”
