TRIALIST Joel Chianese scored twice as a Swindon Town development XI went down 4-2 at Cheltenham Town on Wednesday afternoon.
Australian striker Chianese grabbed a goal in each half, both from close range, in his first match action since arriving in Wiltshire more than three weeks ago.
The brace was ultimately in vein, however, as Bobbie Dale, Jamal Lawrence, Danny Racchi and James Bowen from the penalty spot all beat Ty Belford in the Swindon goal to hand victory to the hosts.
First-teamers Connor Waldon, Jack Barthram and Jake Reeves all started the match for Swindon, while there were also appearances for Harry Agombar and Will Randall.
After the match, manager Mark Cooper told Link Sport that the game was designed to give some of his fringe players minutes on the pitch.
“It served a purpose for us in terms of getting minutes into the players that we needed to,” he said. “It was good for the young boys to play in a competitive game as well. It was good for Barch and Jake Reeves to get time under their belts, Connor Waldon too, and to have a look at Joel too.
“It’s difficult to gauge in terms of results. It’s about the boys getting minute on the pitch and come the next game they’ll be better prepared.”
