The Midcounties Co-operative is showing its appreciation to all customers, members and staff colleagues who helped raise ??150,000 for the new Oxford Children's Hospital Campaign appeal by circulating a large 'thank you greetings card' around the co-operative's trading area to deliver a message of appreciation.
Five years ago The Midcounties Co-operative pledged to raise the funds to build the radiology waiting area at the children's hospital in Oxford. Since then hundreds of employees have embarked on fundraising initiatives from sponsored runs, and fancy dress days to abseiling down five-storey buildings to help reach the total.
Last year 120,000 customers made their own contribution at the tills by donating 50p when they shopped at the Co-op during a fundraising week in the summer.
The hospital is now open for business and admitting patients from Oxfordshire, the surrounding counties and across the UK. It provides purpose-built, child-friendly facilities for inpatient and outpatient children's services under one roof for the very first time.
Ben Reid, chief executive, the Midcounties Co-operative, said, "we want to express our thanks to everyone who has made their own individual contribution.? It is all thanks to their generosity and enthusiasm that we have managed to reach our total.? Now that the hospital is complete we are very proud to have helped bring the plans to fruition."
Graham Brogden, head of community fundraising at Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals, said, "on behalf of the Trust I want to thank The Midcounties Co-op staff and customers for their amazing support.? Such determination will help thousands of children every year from across the region and the UK.? The Co-op really embraced their corporate social responsibility and I hope others are encouraged by this example of success. As we still need to identify the final ??2million I would be delighted to hear from anyone else wanting to be a part of this fantastic project."
