The old Swindon College in the town centre is gradually being taken down six years after the last students left to go to a new building at North Star.
However the site provided a last opportunity to guide and instruct when a team of volunteers from the international emergency rescue service Rapid UK spent 8 June in the pouring rain imagining that the derelict building and piles of steel and rubble was the site of search and rescue after an earthquake or in a disaster zone.
Once demolition is complete development company Ashfield Land will be building a six-screen digital multiplex cinema to be occupied by Cineworld, eight restaurants and a Morrisons supermarket, as well as a 450-space car park. The cost of the project is £50 million.
