The Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library Library Garden Planting on Saturday 9 June has unfortunately had to be cancelled. The Garden Group was being supported by Groundwork South West – a local environmental regeneration charity – however on May 16 2012 Groundwork South West announced it will be going into administration, with the loss of 130 jobs.
Despite this setback the group is determined to carry on with the project – work and fundraising will continue throughout the summer, and we’ve set our sights on opening with a tree planting in September.
Local residents have joined forces with the Friends of Rodbourne Cheney Primary School to take over and develop the grassed area at the back of Moredon and Rodbourne Cheney Library to create a “Community garden”.
We aim to provide a tranquil outdoor space for Library users; to spend time with a book, with friends and with children. It will also be an opportunity for some of the regular Library activities, such as the Friday Songs and Stories Group and Community Coffee Morning group to relax and enjoy a natural environment.
The garden will still need volunteers to help get the initial work done and for regular donations of plants and general maintenance. If you are keen on gardening, (no skills needed just a willingness to take part), and have a little spare time please get in touch.
