Before birds make their homes in them for this year’s breeding season, contractors for Crest Nicholson have started work on 15 April to net and remove some of the hedges on the Tadpole Farm site in preparation for development works.
Swindon Borough Council have approved the work and ward councillors have been advised it is taking place.
Crest community liaison consultant Sarah Foster said: "The work will take place across the whole of the 143ha.Tadpole Farm site. The intention is to retain as many of the hedges as possible.
"Removal will only take place at points where roads and footpaths will be built, according to the agreed masterplan.
"Because of the seasonal constraints, hedges to be removed will be netted to prevent birds using them as nesting sites over the next few weeks."
Work on building an access road to the site of a primary school to serve North Swindon to open by September 2014 will start later this year after planning permission has been gained.
