Culture Swindon, part of Swindon Borough Council have revealed details of this year’s Big Arts Day on Saturday 9 July
The Programming Team is busy finalising the range of performers and activities for this year’s event in Lydiard Park, building on last year’s wildly successful day, pictured. There will again be a range of performing areas which will showcase an even broader spectrum of the arts, with the emphasis very much on showcasing the best local talent around.
There will be performances from a number of dance schools, performing arts academies, and secondary schools. A new initiative will be an acoustic music zone, in addition to a stage featuring local bands as well as an amazing line-up of rising stars in the Comedy tent.
Workshops will be held in mask-making, circus skills, dance, and many more activities. The park will be alive with street performers, stilt-walkers, and even a huge whale! There will be a literature zone and part of the park will become a Curious Wonderland, so look out for Alice, the White Rabbit and other characters bringing to life scenes from Lewis Carroll’s book.
The main stage will again play host to a Swindon Talent heat, and will also feature dance and music, including some exciting collaborations. They are planning a big finale which everyone will be able to participate in!
They are keen to attract local business sponsors who can may not only be able to sponsor the event but can help out by offering their employees to volunteer on the day.
