The GWR Cycling Team has launched its 2007 campaign at Red Planet Bikes in Old Town, Swindon.
The seven man squad proudly showed off their new team kit and Wilier bikes. 2006 saw the team in their inaugural year take 21 victories with a further 37 top three placings across the country, which ranked them ninth nationally from almost 500 teams at the? conclusion of the season.
With the new bikes already being put through their paces in the pre season training rides, Gary Smith, Peter Kench and Dan Smith look in good form.
Ben Luckwell commented he is looking forward to achieving a good result in the Masters over 40's Championship in July, while Grant Bayton was ever keen to get the racing season underway. Nic Tilling is preparing to return to full strength after a short break due to illness. The seventh member of the squad, veteran cyclist Phil Bayton, now in his 44th year of racing, will help to take the team to new heights.? In the coming season the squad look to consolidate their top 10 ranking they firmly established during the past year.
The team will continue to be supported by Scott Wilson Railways, Steele Davis Building Contractors, META Sports Performance & Training, TTI (UK) Ltd and Wiltshire's GWR FM, with additional sponsorship for 2007 from Red Planet Bikes, Wilier Triestina, Sports Beans, Diamond Health & Fitness and Continental Tyres.
After several years of supporting professional teams in Europe, this is the first time that Wilier Triestina will supply machinery for a UK based team, thanks to the efforts of Colin Bath at ATB Sales Ltd.? The squad will use the Le Roi XL Record model, as used by the professional cycling teams Cofidis and Lampre in last years Tour De France.
