22 cyclists with a 2 man backup van support have recently returned from a Charity Cycle ride to Amsterdam in aid of Round Table Children's Wish. It was a very good trip, well organised by Dave Gill from Calne.
Most of the riders come from the Swindon area working at one or other of the Railway companies in town, which is how most of them know each other, but there was also a group of friends from the Chippenham area and others from the Midlands, Plymouth and Salisbury, plus some Round Table members. The Round Table also sponsored them upfront to enable them to buy the matching cycle jerseys.
Everyone did very well arriving safe and sound at the skinny bridge on Saturday 25 July. The riders, most of whom had trained for the event for about 6 months, cycled about 80 miles a day with a hotel booked at the end of each day.
There were green, yellow and spotty jersey competitions each day, loads of punctures over three days, one accident in Belgium (no one seriously injured) and lots of getting lost in Holland due to the route being planned on roads only to discover you're not allowed to cycle on most of the roads because they have a dedicated network of cycle paths!
