DAVID Howell is hoping for further links success when he tees off at the KLM Open later this afternoon.
The Swindon player finished tied for 15th at Royal Liverpool in July and begins his campaign in the Netherlands at 3.55pm, after play was delayed due to Fabrizio Zanotti requiring treatment after being hit on the head by a ball fired from the 14th tee this morning.
Howell is a big fan of the course in Zandvoot and is hopeful another good display can see him push on towards the world’s top 30.
“I enjoyed playing there last year, it’s a good course, although I didn’t finish particularly high up and had a mixed week,” he told Link Sport.
“I did enjoy it though and it’s a nice event to play, you do get a bit of wind there generally because it is a links course and hopefully I can have a good week.
“It didn’t play too firm and fast last year because it was a bit damp.
“I played well at The Open on a Links and the confidence has grown because of that so hopefully it will be good.
“I’m not expecting to have an amazing week but then again I am looking to perform well, and hopefully there will be a good couple of finishes ahead of the Ryder Cup which is obviously a week off for me.
“That would boost me up the rankings a bit towards the top 30 which would be great.”
Howell plays alongside Tommy Fleetwood and Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal.
