Thinking of throwing out that old iron railing or fireplace? Stuck
with unwanted building or architectural stock? Then maybe you should
visit Swindon Reclaim and sell it.
Over the years, I've seen tons of good building materials loaded into
skips, says Boyd McKay, founder of Swindon's only reclaim yard. It's
like throwing your money away. Selling your unwanted building materials isn't just an opportunity to make money; recycling has huge benefits for the environment. And in the midst of the current credit crunch, using salvaged materials to update your home can be a smart way to add style and value.
Since opening in June, Swindon Reclaim has been busy buying and
selling both to the trade and members of the public. It is always
looking for new stock, be it an old chimney pot, or end-of-line or
surplus stock. Virtually anything is considered. While the company
does stock new and used timber, Mr. McKay is keen to emphasise that
his business also deals in other building materials, architectural
salvage and reclamation.
"With the economy as it is, reclaimed timber is harder to come by. For
this reason, along with the growth we have seen in housing projects,
such as loft conversions, I've taken the opportunity to stock a more
diverse range of building materials. We're similar to a builders' merchant, but we're often a lot cheaper".
With 25 years in the building trade, Mr. McKay can offer customers
expert advice on issues from DIY to complete builds – invaluable when
starting any project. His stock is wide and varied and changes on a
daily basis. Intrepid salvage hunters can find anything from reclaimed
bricks, tiles, wood flooring and railway sleepers to stone paving,
ironwork and doors.
Swindon Reclaim's opening hours are: Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm, Sat
