Guests of local Ember Inns’ pub, the Blunsdon Arms in Swindon, are being encouraged to swap their regular drink for a pink tipple to raise money for the team’s annual Drink Pink campaign to help national charity, Against Breast Cancer.
The four week campaign is being fronted by entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne and Julie Cowell (Simon’s mum), who is a breast cancer survivor herself, and will run from 24 May – 19 June. In this the 5th year of its support for the charity, Ember Inns is expanding its ‘pink drink’ range, and hopes to raise a record £60,000 for the charity.
As always, 5p from every glass of rosé wine sold throughout the campaign will be donated to Against Breast Cancer. Pink drinks also include a selection of ciders, long drinks, soft drinks and a limited edition ale, ‘Thirsty Dragon’, inspired by one of the charity’s supporters Duncan Bannatyne! The Drink Pink range consists of:
– Thirsty Dragon ale boasting a limited edition pump clip of the Dragon himself!
– Thatcher’s Katy Rosé Cider
– The Soft Pink: Cracker Apple Strawberry and Mountain Cranberry
– Tickled Pink: J2O Apple & Raspberry
– Pretty in Pink: 50ml Smirnoff Vodka, Pomegranate and Raspberry cordial with soda or lemonade
– Pink Splash: 25ml Bacardi Superior rum, 25ml Martini Bianco with Cracker Apple, Strawberry and Mountain Cranberry
Well known entrepreneur and Dragon, Duncan Bannatyne, said: “I’m happy that, in its fifth year, the Drink Pink campaign is aiming to top last year’s fundraising success of £50,000. Funds will be donated towards the valuable research work the charity is doing to find a vaccine against the disease. But I’m going to get some stick from my wife Jo and kids for turning into a ‘Thirsty Dragon’ during June!”
Mark Burton, manager at the Blunsdon Arms in Swindon, said: “We’re all so excited that Drink Pink is back for another year. The full range of pink drinks means there’s something for everyone, at any time of the day. We’re confident that through the campaign donations and the fundraising events we have planned we will definitely hit the target of £60,000 – it’s going to be an outstanding year!”
Guests at the Blundsdon Arms can enter a prize draw to win some fantastic prizes including a GMTV studio tour given by a presenter, a two night stay in the Château des Vigiers, a Golf and Country Club in France, a 42” plasma, an Apple iPod Touch, a hospitality box at Wimbledon for two on 22 June and a pair of tickets to a Live X Factor show. Pin badges and pens will also be on sale for a donation throughout the campaign with all proceeds going to Against Breast Cancer.
Gordon Vallance, Director at Against Breast Cancer, comments: “We are so pleased that Ember Inns are continuing to support Against Breast Cancer. Ember guests have helped raise a staggering £140,000 so far by drinking pink, the equivalent of enabling us to fund, for a year, three more scientists at University College London and University of Westminster.
“We really enjoy working with Ember Inns and, with their help, we will get closer to the day when we discover the vaccine against this dreadful disease.”
Research shows that one in nine women in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Against Breast Cancer conducts ongoing research work into breast cancer secondary spread, with the aim of increasing survival after treatment through research into diet and lifestyle.
