The last chance to enter a unique and colourful event: rowing a dragon boat across the Cotswolds Water Park for the first time on 23 April – all in the name of charity, team building and fun.
Sponsored by Four Pillars Hotels who are currently building a new hotel at the Water Park, the event aims to raise money for charities including the Cotswold Water Park Society and Cancer Research. Each team also has a chance to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
Charles Holmes is chief executive of Four Pillars Hotels: “The event is a great chance for the whole community to get together. Teams of friends, families or sports clubs can enter, or even local businesses can use it as a team building exercise. We hope the race day will become an annual event in the area.”
Teams using single blade paddles will drive the boat through the water to the rhythmic beat of a large Chinese drum. The teams of around 18 people will be ?riding the dragon? in the middle of the Cotswold Water Park, paddling spectacular 40-foot long authentic Chinese dragon boats, which they will race along a 250 metre course. The boats have exquisitely hand painted scales, with a large dragon’s head and tail.
Event Organiser, Andy Anderson said: “It is an ideal opportunity to find out more about the sport and experience the thrill of dragon boat racing, as well as team building. No experience is needed, and it is a great opportunity for would-be paddlers to have a go.
“The facilities at the Water Park are excellent, and this could be the opportunity to those paddlers that are going for the European CorCom events in Prague or one of the many other events around the west of England including the Corporate games to be held in Swindon later this year.”
Charles at Four Pillars Hotels concluded: “This is a fantastic opportunity to try out a new skill at some of the best facilities in the region. We urge people thinking about entering the race to do so now. We are looking forward to a very enjoyable day.”
The closing date for teams to enter is 14 April. For information on the event call 0871 750 3986 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
