Children in Toothill have enjoyed a range of exciting sports related activities before the Easter weekend in another project funded by the lottery backed Toothill Big Local.
Sports coach Phil Scarisbrick from Grange Park and colleagues from SuperSportsStars hosted a week of sporting events at Toothill Primary School for children living or associated with Toothill.
The course is free and ended with an Easter Egg hunt.
The February half term sports club was a great success and oversubscribed. This time more places were made available particularly to those who could not attend last time. Toothill parent, Jacky Parry said of the previous event: “My children were delighted by the February course, they came home happy and made new friends”
Phil, of SuperSportsStars, is an experienced sports coach who runs sports courses and after school clubs at Toothill Primary, Shaw Ridge Primary and Ferndale Primary Schools. He has qualifications in sports and exercise science, instructing and kids fitness. He is also a qualified Football Association and Rugby Football Union coach. He attended Greendown School in West Swindon and New College ,and competed at a high level for different sports. He has also been involved in community groups in West Swindon for many years.
Phil said: “Children have tried many different activities and were supervised by fully qualified sports coaches. It was great to see so many smiling faces on children who were having great fun and discovering new activities.”
Local Youth Worker and Toothill resident Jason Byfield added: “It’s great to see Toothill Big Local funding a popular well run scheme for Toothill children run by Phil and his team. Phil has worked in conjunction with the school for several years and we are pleased the project has been once again funded.”
Big Local representative Helen Garforth believes the Toothill Big Local committee is setting a standard for the 150 other lottery funded projects around the country: “The sports week builds on the tremendous success of the previous event and the good work of the Toothill Big Local Steering Group. The group is far ahead of other areas in implementing interesting community projects and national organisers are extremely impressed.”
