Sixteen members of the Upham Road Day Care Centre, and their carers, joined 60,000 other football fans at the Arsenal Emirates Stadium in October, thanks to the North Wilts Arsenal Supporters Club (NWASC).
The daycare members, aged between 16 and 65, all have learning difficulties and have their own football team, the Swindon Leopards. Dave Cox, secretary of the NWASC, explained, “The Leopards play and participate in a league which covers the South West region and matches are played a couple a times a month.
“This season, ticket secretary Danny Cross suggested to our committee it would be a good idea to give them a day out, watching Arsenal against West Brom. The atmosphere was electrifying, although on the day West Brom won. All were given a special Arsenal t-shirt to mark the occasion.
“The lads experienced a fantastic day out. One asked if we could get tickets for the Champions League final at Wembley next year.”
