Event organiser Jonathan Ellis has managed to obtain some brilliant auction items with starting prices ranging from £10 to £100. Tickets are being sold at £35 each which includes a champagne reception, followed by a two course supper before the auction, dancing till late into the evening and an 8×6 photograph from the evening, provided by Martin Bennett Photography.
Jonathan Ellis said, ‘‘my son Callum Ellis has autism and there are few places around Swindon that can cater for his specific needs so we decided to take him to the Hop, Skip and Jump centre in Bristol which we heard about in Swindon’s Aiming High magazine for families with disabled children. Callum loved the place but it’s quite far from Swindon so when I heard they were going to build a centre in Swindon, I started to think of ways to help raise some money for the charity.”
Hop Skip and Jump was established in 1982 and offers flexible, immediate (this makes the centre’s unique) and sustained day care to children with life limiting or threatening illnesses or any special need, with support for their families. The first centre was opened near Cheltenham in 1982, and in 2003 the second centre at Kingswood, Bristol, began.
The Hop Skip and Jump Foundation are currently raising money for a new centre in Swindon to cater some 3,000 families in Swindon and the M4 Corridor towards Newbury and Ramsbury.
Clarissa Mitchell, Hop Skip and Jump’s Founder Trustee, said “the support from the residents in Swindon has been overwhelming. We were delighted when Jonathan offered to organise the auction and we do hope it will be supported as much as possible by business people, supporters, parents and carers in the area. Every donation we receive brings us a step closer to opening the new centre in Swindon.”
Jonathan Ellis added, “I have already organised a small fund-raising skittles tournament for the charity but I feel this would raise a lot more and contribute towards its main target. The De Vere Milton Hill House Hotel has been very supportive in this event and is fully behind me in my efforts to raise some much needed money."
