Graduates and people looking for work have been given the opportunity to brush up on their interview skills and come up with a career plan.
Job seekers from all kinds of backgrounds signed up to the free five day Graduate Ready Steady Job course, as part of Love Work Skills Month at New College.
Geraldine, who took part in the employability course said: “The course has given me new strategies to improve my CV and cover letter. All areas of the course have been useful, especially helping identify my confidence issues. I feel more prepared for job interviews and I also feel like I have learnt to value my own needs.”
The course focused on career planning, strategies to improve job interviews, developing personal confidence and presentation skills.
Tom Mills, who signed up for the course said: “I’ve learnt a lot about CV and interview techniques, also taking part in mock interviews. I found career planning really useful and my confidence has been given a boost. I think the college has been very supportive and I feel more prepared for future job interviews.”
Throughout February New College has been running ‘Love Work Skills Month’ with employability courses also running for 16-18 year olds and for people over the age of 19.
People are also being reminded about the New College Job Club, which offers one to one help with writing CVs, finding job vacancies, reviewing job search sites, completing job applications and interviewing skills.
