WOOTTON Bassett, Purton and Highworth Town all made progress into the second qualifying round of the FA Vase yesterday, but Shrivenham bowed out of the competition.
Bassett were 3-2 winners at Cove, with striker Nathan Gambling the hero as he scored twice after the hosts had managed to find two equalisers.
Dan Bailey gave the visitors the lead after only seven minutes, but saw his goal cancelled out 13 minutes later before Gambling restored the Bassett advantage with a good effort from range.
Cove again found an equaliser, but Bassett weren’t to be denied as Gambling struck again.
Highworth had TJ Bohane to thank as they beat Bracknell 2-0 to secure their progress, with the striker scoring both goals to make sure of victory.
Purton were also 2-0 winners as they saw off the challenge of Clanfield to ensure their progress.
Shrivenham’s run ended after a 3-0 loss at Windsor, while New College and Fleet Spurs will have to do it all again after a 3-3 draw.
