Quasar Swindon has linked up with Ronald McDonalds House Charities, for a day of family fun and raising much needed funds on Saturday, 24 August 2013.
Outside the McDonalds eatery in Wharf Green, Swindon from 10am to 4pm, Quasar Swindon will provide its mobile attractions such as its inflatable maze and Surf Simulator which will attract and encourage children and adults alike to participate in this Charity Fun Day knowing how it will help to raise money for families not as lucky as themselves.
For Liam O’Neill of Quasar Swindon, caring for loved ones is nothing new. Young entrepreneur and father of two, Liam 28 from Swindon spent the last 5 years caring for his diabetic grandmother, taking her bloods, administering medication, cooking her meals and taking care of her general comfort until her death 7 years ago.
During that time, Liam studied and worked as a DJ at night so he could care for his grandmother during the day. Liam says, “I remember vividly sitting on a train on the first anniversary of my nan’s death feeling how proud she would have been knowing that I had just completed my Access To Music Course qualifying me in Creative Music Production and Audio Engineering.”
Liam goes on to say, “I first became aware of Ronald McDonalds House because friends of mine used their facilities for a couple of months when their baby son was being treated. Sadly the baby died, it was devastating and it brought to mind how I would feel as a father having to leave my child in hospital several miles away without the resource of staying close by.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities is an independent charity which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to 6,000 families each year at 14 hospitals across the UK. It enables seriously ill children to have their families close by when they are undergoing treatment and allows them to maintain a degree of normal family life.
Since 1989 the Charity has opened 14 Ronald McDonald Houses. Families can stay free of charge in a Ronald McDonald House, for as long as they need to – whether it is for two nights or two years. This crucial charity believes that families should not have to sleep on camp beds or in their cars in order to be close to their children. It is determined to continue to provide accommodation to meet the needs of all these families.
As well as the inflatable maze at Wharf Green, Liam will be donating proceeds from Quasar Swindon from all its attractions on the day. The Surf Simulator is always a great draw providing safe and fun entertainment whether you are 5 or 85 so please come along and support this great cause.
