Local farmer Tom Archard is taking part in his toughest charity challenge yet on Saturday 18 May in honour of his sister Sophie, who died of ovarian cancer age 34.
The event is in support of Prospect Hospice, Swindon, where Sophie spent her final days and received dignified end of life care, and Macmillan, who provide practical, medical and financial support for better cancer care.
Tom, from Castle Eaton just outside Swindon, along with Sophie’s friends and other family members, will complete a gruelling 54 kilometres over beach, cliff and trail, including 1km of vertical climb in Bude, Cornwall.
Record-breaking British athlete and celebrity Derek Redmond – a longtime friend of Sophie – said: “The team taking part in this event are pushing themselves to the limit. As a former athlete, I can’t think of a more positive and fitting way to remember my friend who so loved a challenge, and to raise money and awareness for two fantastic charities.”
