A Swindon social enterprise will be the fashionable place to be when it hosts a fundraising catwalk show next week.
Energy 2, a ground-breaking project which helps people with disabilities or health conditions to gain the skills and experience they need to find sustainable jobs, is holding a John Lewis Fashion Show on Thursday May 12.
And as models grace the catwalk in the department store’s latest summer fashions, leading work and skills organisation Working Links will be supporting the event with team members helping to ensure the event is a success.
Working Links Partnerships Manager for the South West, Kelly Moss, said: “It’s a really exciting initiative.
“It’s a great opportunity to become involved with a project which does so much to help people in the community and we are very much looking forward to taking part.”
Energy2 is part of Swindon Borough Council’s Supported Employment service. Established in 2009, 25 per cent of its clients have gained paid employment as a direct result of the service. To help it to continue to be financially viable, Energy2 has established a successful enterprise, producing wood pellets for animal bedding.
The enterprise is one of the organisations chosen as a subcontractor by Working Links to deliver the Work Choice programme in Swindon and Wiltshire. Work Choice is a Government-supported employment programme providing specialist support to help people with disabilities find and remain in work. Work Choice also ensures employers get the support they need to employ more people with disabilities.
As part of the tenth anniversary of Working Links last year, the organisation’s staff gave up a day of work to volunteer for charity, known as a Rainbow Day. As part of their Rainbow Day, Kelly and colleague, Operations Manager Shelley Cook, decided to support Energy2 by helping out at this event.
Kelly said: “We will be selling raffle tickets, laying out tables and manning the bar.”
In addition to the fashion parade, there will also be a fish and chip supper and a host of stall holders including jewellery, hair and beauty salon, as well as a tarot card reader who will give 10 minute readings for £10.
Any businesses that would like to help with this event by donating prizes to the raffle can contact Working Links Employment Specialist Consultant Lisa Sleep on 07816275109.
The event will be held at Energy2’s premises at Cheney Manor Industrial Estate from 6pm. Tickets are £10. For further information call 01793 548060 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
