Youngsters from Ferndale Primary School took part in a mass walking bus as part of the ‘Walk to School’ week in mid-October.
Over 160 members of the school community met at Tovey Road on 18 October, bibbed up in hi-vis vests provided by Specsavers, to walk the 15 minutes to school where they were welcomed with warm croissants and the Swindon Council’s Speed Watch team.
The school Travel Ambassadors, which is made up of children from Year 1 to 6, worked with school staff and Swindon Council’s Travel Advisor Jane Deeley.
As a result of seeing the children having to walk along busy roads to get to school several parents signed up to become a part of the local Speed Watch group.
They will be trained to use a speed measuring device to track the speed of traffic on Ferndale Road and other surrounding areas.
