A literary convention celebrating the work of author Jasper Fforde will roll into Shaw Ridge’s De Vere Hotel from 28 to 30 May.
There is no need to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of his books to enjoy the informal event but if you’ve read one or two it will help enhance the experience. Fancy dress is optional and not restricted to keen followers.
Fforde is famous for his Thursday Next series which is based in Swindon, though not as we know it.
The weekend line-up includes live audience participation Shakespeare, the 1980s computer games master challenge, and name that fruit, as well as a fancy dress gala on Saturday night.
Jasper Fforde’s latest novel is Shades of Grey, set in a post-apocalyptic world where the social order is dictated by the colour you can see. Of his writing, Fforde says, “for me the best big idea is the sneaky small one that overtakes when you’re not watching.”
On Swindon, “it is amusing in the same way that Slough, Rutland and Chipping Sodbury are.”
Ffiesta tickets are £55 and De Vere bed and breakfast costs £69 per night.
